According to the semiconductor industry on July 4, SK Hynix supplied AI memories for AI Inference Accelerator, an AI accelerator developed by SK Telecom.
SK Hynix is ramping up the supply of high bandwidth memory chips for AI accelerators and servers. In the industry, there is a concern over a memory supply glut due to China’s focus on the promotion of the semiconductor industry. But this market segment has the advantage of boosting profitability because it is hard to enter it at a stroke and products are sold at a higher price compared to general-purpose chips.
AIX is able to increase total AI service capacities about 5 times without adding a server. Its power efficiency is 16 times higher than a GPU-based accelerated solution. AIX is able to save data centers operation cost.
SK Hynix is already supplying GDDR6, a next-generation graphics DRAM, as well as a high bandwidth memory (HBM2) to major AI accelerator and server makers. Nvidia, the most active player in the market, sold more than 80 AI servers in Korea last year alone.
SK Hynix has rich experience in this sector as the company successfully commercialized an original HBM for the first time in the world with AMD before an HBM2.
